Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about RateMyUnits
QWhat can I review?▼
A: You can review any university unit/course you've completed. We currently support units from the University of Sydney, University of Auckland, and University of New South Wales. Each review requires verification through your student email or ID to ensure authenticity.
QHow are category scores calculated?▼
A: Each category score is the average of all approved reviews for that unit. Reviewers rate each category from 1-5 stars. The system calculates the mean of all ratings for each category separately. Categories include: Instructional Clarity, Workload, Difficulty, Assessment Fairness, Support & Access, and Value for Effort.
QWhat is the overall score?▼
A: The overall score is a separate rating (1-5 stars) that reviewers provide to capture their general experience with the unit. It's not calculated from the category scores—it's an independent rating that reflects the reviewer's holistic assessment of the unit.
QWhy is my review pending?▼
A: All reviews go through a moderation process to ensure they follow our community guidelines. We check for inappropriate language, spam, and adherence to our standards. Most reviews are approved within 24-48 hours. Pending reviews are not visible to other users until approved.
QCan I edit or delete my review?▼
A: Once submitted, reviews cannot be edited to maintain the integrity of the review system. However, you can contact us through the contact form to request review removal if you have a valid reason. For future submissions, please review your content carefully before submitting.
QWhat is Postgrad White/Black?▼
A: These are optional tags that indicate the level of postgraduate coursework. 'Postgrad White' typically refers to coursework masters units, while 'Postgrad Black' refers to research-intensive or PhD-level units. These tags help students identify the academic level and expectations of the unit.
QHow do likes work?▼
A: Users can like helpful reviews to surface the most valuable feedback. Each IP address can only like a review once to prevent manipulation. Likes help other students identify the most useful reviews and reward reviewers who provide detailed, helpful feedback.
QHow is abuse prevented?▼
A: We have several safeguards: (1) Student verification required via email or ID, (2) All reviews are moderated before publication, (3) One like per IP address, (4) Community guidelines enforcement, (5) Reporting system for inappropriate content, and (6) Regular monitoring for spam or malicious activity.
