The Origin
Developed by an engineering student at the University of Sydney, RateMyUnits aims to create a more connected and informed university community. Our mission is to provide current and prospective students with transparent, student-driven insights into academic units, enabling them to make well-informed decisions about their studies through honest reviews and feedback from past and present students.
The Vision
A university unit rating platform is not a new concept. However, as a student in Australia, the existing options are either too archaic, poorly maintained, or focused on professors rather than units. RateMyUnits takes a different approach by evaluating units across 12 comprehensive components that capture the entire student experience, from workload and assessment to teaching quality and real-world applicability.
Most importantly, we focus on units of study, not individual lecturers. What matters most is the unit structure, content, and overall experience. All reviews are posted by real students; verified through evidence. However, personal identities and user information remain anonymous, as all verification evidence is deleted within 7 days. This system increases honesty as students may review without retribution; a win-win situation for past and future students.

Each review includes the same, calculated unit 'components'; 12 dimensions on the experience one has when taking a university unit. Helping us quantify the qualitative experiences, in a systematic and consistent way.
